The guide

Overview

A new doll styling app where you pick hairstyles, facial features, makeup, apparel and accessories for a Japanese young chick and a guy on their romantic go-out. Rummage through the large wardrobes of both comic characters and try out dozens of fashionable garments: dresses, pants, shorts, tops, skirts and more. Explore options and design all kinds of outfits. E.g. give the pair an intelligent, geeky look with glasses and formal suits or jackets. Or go for the cool popular image. Go glam / classy for a prom queen outfit, and maybe make the guy look like a quarterback of the college baseball team. Be the fashion-, hairstyle- and looks-designer for the young lovers. Fill first date with romance and happiness, and the girl would write a cute love poem in her romantic diary about her crush tonight.

What it's like to play

Choosing an outfit, a hairstyle, a color scheme, a recipe. These games are about decisions you make for fun rather than under pressure. A typical session opens with a character or scene, offers a menu of options, and lets you mix them until something looks right. Some add a small story or a client with a request. Most just let you play with the possibilities.

How to play

1Open the first category of options, such as hair or walls, and tap through them to see each one applied live.
2Move to the next category once the first looks right. Changes stack, so you can go back and adjust anything.
3If the game gives you a brief or a theme, keep it visible and check your choices against it before finishing.
4Press the finish, done or camera button to see your result and, in many games, save or share it.

Why it's worth a go

There is something quietly satisfying about making a thing look exactly the way you want. Anime Couples Dress Up-new gives you the tools and gets out of the way. It is free, runs in a browser tab with no install, and works on a phone, which is where most people play it.
