Citadel: Fortress Defense is a 3D medieval strategy game in first person.
4.3Citadel: Fortress Defense is a 3D medieval strategy game in first person. Each day you build your town, then a raid comes. Build walls, gates, houses, farms, sawmills, quarries, towers, barracks, a market and a mage tower. Gather wood, stone, gold and food. Characters: you are the Lord. Hire knights, archers and mages and control any soldier in battle. Enemies: goblins, bandits, skeletons, shamans and enemy soldiers break through walls; every fifth day a boss arrives. Each raid is stronger: spend renown on upgrades, raise stone walls and expand your land. Mode: single player endless survival. If the town hall falls, the game is over.
Reflexes carry you through the first few stages of an action game. After that, you need to read the room. Where the enemies come from, how long an attack animation takes, when to retreat. The pace rarely lets up, and health is always a little scarcer than you would like. Sessions are tense in a good way, and victory tends to arrive just as your hands start to ache.
The appeal of Citadel: Fortress Defense is simple: tension, release, repeat. It runs free in a browser with nothing to download, loads in seconds, and gives you a proper fight without any commitment. When it ends, you close the tab and that is that.
Suits players who enjoy combat and pressure. Teenagers and adults make up most of the audience, though older children with good reflexes will keep up. Not aimed at very young players.
