Do I need a fast computer to run Escape From Castle Doom?

No. Puzzle games are light on graphics and run fine on older laptops, basic tablets and most phones. A current browser matters more than hardware.

Can two people play together?

Puzzle games here are generally single player, but they work well passed back and forth, with one person solving and another suggesting moves.

Why did my progress disappear?

Progress is stored in the browser rather than an account. If you cleared browsing data, used a private window, or switched devices, the game would start fresh.

The guide

Overview

The Blue Peter presenters are in Castle Doom. Help them reach the exits by putting trampolines and springs around the castle. With your mouse, drag the trampolines from the bottom of the screen to where you want them to go. If you make a mistake you can place them somewhere else. Avoid the ghosts. They will send your presenters to sleep, dashing their hopes of escape. Help the presenters escape as quickly as possible to get a bonus score. Prepare yourself for the dangers of the cursed castle. Countless heroes have tried and failed to escape its walls. Meanwhile, hundreds of monsters are roaming inside, guarding the sword shards, the last known thing to be capable of defeating the demonic castle owner, thus shattering its magical structure.

What it's like to play

The best moment in any puzzle game is the one just after you have been stuck. You have tried the obvious moves, nothing worked, and then you spot the thing you overlooked. The whole board resolves in a few quick taps. Sessions are built from a string of those moments, separated by stretches of quiet staring. It is slow in a good way.

How to play

1Identify the goal first. Look for a target, counter or outline that tells you what a finished stage looks like.
2Make a move you can reverse, then see how the board reacts. Most puzzles let you undo or restart freely.
3Group similar pieces or clear blockers early so you have room to work later in the stage.
4When you solve a stage, note what the trick was; the next few stages will usually build on it.

Why it's worth a go

Because it fits into the gaps. Escape From Castle Doom does not need a download or a login, and a stage takes about as long as waiting for a kettle. It is also one of the few kinds of game that leaves you feeling slightly sharper rather than drained.
