The guide

Overview

Time is against the Ninja Turtles in this Extreme Skate 5000 Game. Waking up from an ambush that left them unconscious, Mike, Mondo, and Casey find themselves in New York’s notorious and reeking sewers. Low on energy and with their armors destroyed, our fearless warriors begin to search for a path back home. But where exactly did the end up? Help Mike and the others find their way back to the Lair before the enemy reaches them. Race down the echoing tunnels, but mind the traps and obstacles that are lurking from the shadows. Our villans are smart. They highjacked the galleries, making sure that our heroes won’t make it home in time. In fact, they might not even make it back at all without your help.

What it's like to play

Speed is the obvious draw, but racing games are really about control. Holding a line through a bend, timing a boost, judging an overtake. The first race of a session is usually scrappy. By the third or fourth, you have learned the track and the car, and the finish starts to feel earned. Races are short, so even a brief session covers a few of them.

How to play

1Pick a car or kart if the game offers a choice, then start the race and hold accelerate as the countdown ends.
2Steer with arrow keys, WASD or tilt. Keep inputs small and smooth, especially at high speed.
3Brake before corners and accelerate out of them. Carrying too much speed in is the most common mistake.
4Watch for shortcuts and boost pads on the track; many games hide a faster route off the main line.

Why it's worth a go

Extreme Skate 5000 is a quick, free way to get a little speed into your day. There is nothing to install and no account to make. The races are brief, the controls are simple, and getting a corner right is a small satisfaction that does not get old.
