The guide

Overview

Stick Fighter is a fighting game where you take control of one six characters, all of whom have completely different move sets. Run the gauntlet in the single player mode taking on each of the other characters in an attempt to prove yourself as the ultimate Stick Fighter.

What it's like to play

Fast hands help, but pattern recognition wins. An action game shows you an enemy, lets you get hit once, and expects you to learn from it. Over a session you build a library of tells: this one lunges, that one shoots on a count of three. Stages are short, health is precious, and the boss at the end of a section is where everything you learned gets tested.

Controls

Move Jump - A D or Left Right arrow keys Attack 1 - A A or Left Left Attack 2 - D D or Right Right Double Jump 1 - A D or Left Right Double Jump 2 - D A or Right Left Attack 3 - While double-jumping A or Left Atta

How to play

1Learn to move and attack on the first screen, then deliberately watch the first enemy attack once before fighting back.
2Dodge toward open space, never toward a wall, and keep your back clear of other enemies.
3Alternate attacking with short retreats. Constant offence drains your health faster than anything else.
4Before a boss, collect every pickup on the stage. You will need the margin.

Why it's worth a go

Fight StickMan delivers a proper fight with no setup. It is free, runs in the browser, and needs no download or account. Stages are tight and sessions are short enough to play in a break, long enough to feel like you did something.

Who it's for

Suits players with decent reflexes and a taste for pressure. Teenagers and adults are the natural fit, with older children managing the early stages. Younger players will likely find it too fast.
