The guide

Overview

Garfield Rush is an endless running mobile game where the Player is Garfield, Odie or Nemo. After being tricked by a conniving cat named Harry, the player chases after him. As they run, they grab gold coins out of the air while simultaneously dodging collisions with vehicles and other objects, and can also jump on the top of the vehicles to look forshortcuts. The player can collect various items such as coins, score, elastic shoes, jetpacks, magnets and booster packs. By swapping rapidly as speed increases, more coins and score can be acquired. 18 costumes can be unlocked via in-game purchases and players can collect specific items. Plus characters can pig out on lasagna, spaghetti, Neapolitan pizza, hot dogs, burritos, fried chicken and more.

What it's like to play

You start somewhere unfamiliar with a vague goal and not much else. An adventure game fills in the rest as you go: a path that opens when you find the right item, a character who tells you where to look, a platform that was there all along if you had thought to jump. Sessions are built from small discoveries, and the best ones stay with you.

How to play

1Spend the first minute exploring without a goal. Note exits, objects and anyone standing around.
2Interact with characters by walking up to them and pressing the action key or tapping. They often hand out clues.
3Collect items as you find them. Most adventures will not let you pick up something you do not eventually need.
4When a puzzle stumps you, read your inventory and the scene again. The combination is usually closer than it seems.

Why it's worth a go

There is a particular pleasure in finally understanding what a place is asking of you, and Garfield Rush delivers that without any cost or setup. No download, no account, just a Play button. It suits an evening more than a bus ride, but you can leave and return.
