The guide

Overview

This is a strange kind of kindergarten. First of all because there are no kids. They’ve all gone missing under mysterious circumstances. Along with all the adults working there. And you have to figure out what happened. That means you’ll need to explore the whole Garten of Banban making your way through empty and eerie halls and rooms, digging through the contents of cabinets and drawers, looking for clues and solving puzzles. However, you should stay alert, who knows what kind of evil forces are at play Something is definitely not right with this kindergarten. It’s too empty and quiet. Perhaps the kids have gone for a walk? But the layer of dust on the toys is too thick. Nobody has obviously been here for quite a while. So where did they go? That’s what you’ll have to find out. Explore this desolate and spooky building, check every part, every room of it, collect evidence and note the tiniest clues. Beware of dangerous monsters that you can meet here.

What it's like to play

The loop is simple to describe and hard to put down. Find a problem, search the area, pick up what you can, try things until something works, and move on to the next room, cave or screen. Adventure games thread these loops together with light storytelling, so a session feels like reading a chapter rather than beating a stage. You stop at the next cliffhanger, not the next checkpoint.

How to play

1Watch the opening scene or read the first text box, since it usually tells you what you are looking for.
2Move with the arrow keys or by tapping, and press the action button near anything that glows, sparkles or looks out of place.
3Keep a mental list of things you could not open or reach; they are what your newly found items are for.
4Talk to every character twice. Second conversations often reveal something new.

Why it's worth a go

GARTEN OF BANBAN rewards attention. You notice a detail, remember it two screens later, and it pays off. That satisfaction is free here, with nothing to download and no account to make. Sessions can be long, but you can close the tab and return on the same browser.
