The guide

Overview

Meet Newton Bill, the young aspiring uphill racer. He is about to embark on a journey that takes him to where no ride has ever been before. From Ragnarok to a Nuclear Plant, all places are a racing track to Bill. With little respect to the laws of physics, Bill will not rest until he has conquered the highest hills up on the moon. Face the challenges of unique hill climbing environments with many different cars. Gain bonuses from daring tricks and collect coins to upgrade your car and reach even higher distances. Watch out though - Bill's stout neck is not what it used to be when he was a kid. And his good old gasoline crematorium will easily run out of fuel.

What it's like to play

Racing games start with a countdown and a line of opponents, and from there it is all about the next corner. You accelerate, brake a fraction late, drift wide, recover. Position changes constantly. A single race takes two or three minutes, and a session is usually a run of them, each one a slightly cleaner line than the last. The finish line arrives before you are ready for it.

How to play

1Check the controls on the start screen. Arrow keys or WASD steer and accelerate on desktop; tilt or on-screen pedals on phones.
2Brake before a corner, not in it, and turn in smoothly. Jerky steering costs more time than slow entry speed.
3Follow the racing line the other cars take on your first lap, then start cutting it closer.
4Use boosts on straights where you can hold them, not mid-corner where you will lose control.

Why it's worth a go

Hill Climb Car Racing‏ is a clean hit of speed with no setup. It runs free in a browser tab, needs no download or login, and a race lasts a few minutes. The learning curve is gentle at first and gets steep, which keeps a session interesting well past the first few races.
