King Rugni

This game puts you in the boots of a wacky dwarf monarch. Deploy your towers on the field and create an impregnable defense system. There are unlockable and upgradeable towers, lots of different enemies, 5 different areas, and 30 levels. Are you ready for this exciting adventure, your grace?

Open it, tap, and you are in. A casual game does not ask you to read a manual or remember a control scheme. The first stage shows a hand pointing at something; you tap it; a pleasant chime plays. From there each stage adds a small twist. Sessions are easy to begin and easy to end, and both of those things matter more than they sound.

• Click on the turrets to activate them

1. 1Follow the pointing hand or glowing object on the first stage. That is the game teaching you its one core action.
2. 2Tap, click or swipe to interact. If something highlights when you hover or touch it, it probably does something.
3. 3Watch for a target shown at the top of the stage and work toward it in the fewest moves you can manage.
4. 4Use boosters or hints freely. Most stages are designed with them in mind.

• Free to play, nothing to install, no account needed
• Loads in the browser tab and opens full screen when you press Play
• Plays best with the phone turned sideways or on a wider screen
• Mouse and keyboard controls, with touch support on most devices
• Listed under Casual

It is relaxing in a way few things on a screen are. King Rugni loads in the browser with no download and no account, it makes no demands, and every few minutes it gives you a small win. For a free game, that is a good trade.

Suits adults who want to unwind and kids who want something colorful and simple. Also good for people who only ever play on a phone and never think of themselves as players.

How long is a round of King Rugni?

A single stage usually takes one to three minutes. There is no fixed session length, so you stop when you want to.

Is a mouse better than touch for this?

They are about equal. Casual games are designed for touch first, but mouse clicks map to the same actions on desktop.

What happens if I lose a stage?

You simply try it again. There are no lives to run out in most casual games, and nothing you have done so far is lost.
