Is Mermaid Jump scary?

Adventure games range from cheerful to mildly spooky. Nothing on this site is designed to be genuinely frightening, but check the thumbnail and description if you are playing with a young child.

What if I get completely stuck?

Revisit every screen you have seen and click or tap on anything you have not tried. If the game has a hint button, use it. Stepping away for a bit also helps.

Can I play on a phone?

Yes. Most adventures here provide touch controls, either on-screen buttons or tap-to-move. A larger screen helps for spotting small objects.

The guide

Overview

Ariel is a fictional character and the title character of Walt Disney Pictures' 28th animated film The Little Mermaid (1989). She subsequently appears in the film's prequel television series (1992,1994), direct-to-video sequel The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (2000), and direct-to-video prequel The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning (2008). Ariel is voiced by Jodi Benson in all official animated appearances and merchandise. She is fourth in the Disney Princess lineup, the first nonhuman princess, and the only princess to become a mother to her own child.

What it's like to play

You start somewhere unfamiliar with a vague goal and not much else. An adventure game fills in the rest as you go: a path that opens when you find the right item, a character who tells you where to look, a platform that was there all along if you had thought to jump. Sessions are built from small discoveries, and the best ones stay with you.

How to play

1Spend the first minute exploring without a goal. Note exits, objects and anyone standing around.
2Interact with characters by walking up to them and pressing the action key or tapping. They often hand out clues.
3Collect items as you find them. Most adventures will not let you pick up something you do not eventually need.
4When a puzzle stumps you, read your inventory and the scene again. The combination is usually closer than it seems.
