The guide

Overview

Nightmare Runners is the ultimate knockout game with both fun and surprising traps. Runners race at night and unknown traps and monsters can get in your way. The aim of the game is to advance in each race without being eliminated. Of course, this is not as easy as it seems; because there are many obstacles, traps and rivals... You can play the Nightmare Runners game against 1 Player online / bot opponents, or against your friend in 2 Player mode. You can unlock new skins and characters with the coins you get with game achievements.

What it's like to play

Rivalry makes simple games better. A multiplayer title here might be a two-button fighting game or a racing game or a turn-based board game, and it hardly matters, because the other person is the real content. Sessions are rounds of a minute or two, with a tally. The player who is losing always wants one more. The player who is winning usually agrees.

How to play

1Select a mode. Local games share a keyboard or screen; online games find an opponent for you.
2Check which keys or on-screen buttons belong to each player before the countdown.
3Play your first round to learn, your second to test your opponent, and your third to win.
4Use the rematch or next round button to keep the score running.

Features

Free to play, nothing to install, no account needed
Loads in the browser tab and opens full screen when you press Play
Plays best with the phone turned sideways or on a wider screen
Mouse and keyboard controls, with touch support on most devices

Why it's worth a go

Nightmare Runners runs free in the browser with no install or sign-up, which makes it quick to pull up when two people want a game. Rounds are short and competitive, and a human opponent means no two sessions are the same, however simple the rules.

Who it's for

Suits friends, couples, siblings and classmates, as well as solo players looking for an online opponent. Older children through adults will find it approachable. A laptop or tablet suits shared play best.
