The guide

Overview

You play as a Ninja Pumpkin (yes, it is a kind of ninja.) and in each level, you have to do your best to reach the level’s end. You have to be careful not to fall or touch enemies along the way. There are 3 different kind of enemies in the game. The red ones are the most common one and can be killed jumping on their head or tackling them. The yellow ones can be killed in the same way, but be careful because they jump every few seconds. And the third enemies are the most difficult ones. These black enemies are invincible and can’t be killed and you just have to jump over them and avoid touching them in any way. There are many coins in each level and by collecting 30 coins, you will get an extra life.

What it's like to play

You start somewhere unfamiliar with a vague goal and not much else. An adventure game fills in the rest as you go: a path that opens when you find the right item, a character who tells you where to look, a platform that was there all along if you had thought to jump. Sessions are built from small discoveries, and the best ones stay with you.

How to play

1Spend the first minute exploring without a goal. Note exits, objects and anyone standing around.
2Interact with characters by walking up to them and pressing the action key or tapping. They often hand out clues.
3Collect items as you find them. Most adventures will not let you pick up something you do not eventually need.
4When a puzzle stumps you, read your inventory and the scene again. The combination is usually closer than it seems.

Why it's worth a go

There is a particular pleasure in finally understanding what a place is asking of you, and Ninja Pumpkin delivers that without any cost or setup. No download, no account, just a Play button. It suits an evening more than a bus ride, but you can leave and return.
