The guide

Overview

Drive through endless hordes of zombie workers in an armored car with a rooftop missile launcher. Your car fires on its own: you pick the lane, jump the potholes and hit the nitro to plow through the crowd. 120 stages across six places, from sunny fields and rainy forests to the desert, a frozen pass, a dead city and the Inferno. Every stage ends with a giant boss with its own moves. Wait for it to get dizzy and hit back. Pull off flips and barrel rolls on ramps, keep your combo going to unlock Fury mode, grab power-ups, rescue survivors and upgrade your weapon, armor and tires. Collect 12 cars, paint jobs and parts, finish daily challenges and missions, and see how far you can go in Endless mode.

What it's like to play

Racing games start with a countdown and a line of opponents, and from there it is all about the next corner. You accelerate, brake a fraction late, drift wide, recover. Position changes constantly. A single race takes two or three minutes, and a session is usually a run of them, each one a slightly cleaner line than the last. The finish line arrives before you are ready for it.

How to play

1Check the controls on the start screen. Arrow keys or WASD steer and accelerate on desktop; tilt or on-screen pedals on phones.
2Brake before a corner, not in it, and turn in smoothly. Jerky steering costs more time than slow entry speed.
3Follow the racing line the other cars take on your first lap, then start cutting it closer.
4Use boosts on straights where you can hold them, not mid-corner where you will lose control.

Why it's worth a go

Nitrovenant 2 is a clean hit of speed with no setup. It runs free in a browser tab, needs no download or login, and a race lasts a few minutes. The learning curve is gentle at first and gets steep, which keeps a session interesting well past the first few races.
