Why does my high score reset sometimes?

Scores are stored in your browser, not an account. Clearing site data, using private mode or switching to another device starts the record from zero.

Is it too hard for a child?

The early seconds of any run are gentle, so children can play and enjoy it. Reaching a high score takes practice, which is true for adults too.
