Can I play Shortcut Run 2021 without a mouse?

Yes. On desktop, racing games almost always use the keyboard. On phones, you steer by tilting or with on-screen buttons.

Is there a way to practice a track?

Some racing games offer a time trial or practice mode without opponents. Otherwise, the first race on a track doubles as a practice run.

The guide

Overview

Race against opponents, and stack up all the floorboards you can pick up along the way. If you’re clever enough, get out of the way and build bridges and take shortcuts to get to the finish line before everyone else. Cheating has never been so stylish.

What it's like to play

Most of a racing game happens in the half second before a corner. Brake too late and you lose two places. Brake too early and the car behind slips past. Everything else, the straights and the boosts and the paint jobs, exists to set up those moments. Races are short and sessions are usually a string of them, with lap times and positions to measure your progress against.

How to play

1Start a race and use the first lap to learn the track layout, especially where the sharpest turns are.
2Steer with arrow keys or tilt, accelerate with the up key or on-screen pedal, and brake lightly before corners.
3Stay to the inside on tight turns and the outside on fast ones; it is the shortest route through most tracks.
4Watch the position indicator and the minimap if there is one, so you know when to push and when to defend.
