The guide

Overview

Pull the Hero Axe out of the old stump and become the mightiest lumberjack in the forest. Chop trees, fill your backpack with logs and fly them to the truck to sell for coins. Buy stronger tools, from Twin Axes and Power Gauntlets to the Hero Saw, Thunder Axe and Plasma Cutter, and upgrade your strength, backpack, speed and Hero Flight. Unlock six forest zones, from Oak Woods to the Redwood Giants, where every tree is worth more. Battle the giant Elder Trees, smash the rot rigs of Baron Blight, clear monster dens for rare materials and relics, rescue forest animals and rebuild the village to earn a beaver helper, a frost pup and a double jump. Plant rare seeds in your own grove, dig up buried treasure and collect new hero gloves. Play solo or online with up to 8 heroes.

What it's like to play

Rivalry makes simple games better. A multiplayer title here might be a two-button fighting game or a racing game or a turn-based board game, and it hardly matters, because the other person is the real content. Sessions are rounds of a minute or two, with a tally. The player who is losing always wants one more. The player who is winning usually agrees.

How to play

1Select a mode. Local games share a keyboard or screen; online games find an opponent for you.
2Check which keys or on-screen buttons belong to each player before the countdown.
3Play your first round to learn, your second to test your opponent, and your third to win.
4Use the rematch or next round button to keep the score running.

Why it's worth a go

Super Chop: Forest Hero runs free in the browser with no install or sign-up, which makes it quick to pull up when two people want a game. Rounds are short and competitive, and a human opponent means no two sessions are the same, however simple the rules.
