Overview

A) Say the game is unfair because you die with a single hit and there are no weak enemies and then cry with your mama; or B) Dodge all this bullet hell and destroy the enemies in 30 seconds because you are a real gamer. Phoenix Force is a shoot 'em up about a group of Phoenixes that fight big and strong enemies called bosses over 100 levels. It takes the boss battle as the foundation for every level, creating engaging short battles with a difficulty level that is sure to make some people cry. The game starts a long time ago, when Earth was hit by meteors and everything burned to ashes. The Phoenix of Fire, Fury, was the first to reborn, and found the world full of monsters, the bosses, and rescued the other Phoenixes: Cryo of Ice, Tupã of Thunder, Gaia of Earth and Gast of Ghost. Together they are the Phoenix Force and they have to travel all the continents of our world in a journey to eliminate all the bosses in 100 really challenging battles.

What it's like to play

One button. Rising speed. No second chances. That is the arcade formula and it has not changed much in forty years because it does not need to. A session is a run of attempts where the first few are warm-ups and the later ones are tense. You stop noticing the music. You stop blinking. Then you clip an edge and it is over, and you tap Play again.

Controls

Mouse to aim, click to act
Arrow keys or WASD to move; Space to jump or confirm
Press Escape or the exit button to leave the full-screen player

How to play

1Check the start screen for the control hint, then do one throwaway run to feel how your character moves and stops.
2Commit to each input. Hesitating halfway through a jump or dodge is what causes most early crashes.
3Keep your thumb or finger resting lightly on the control so you are never reaching for it.
4Set a target before each run, for example clearing the next obstacle type, and stop for the day when you hit it.

Why it's worth a go

Nothing to learn, nothing to install, and a run of The fire of fenix 2021 fits inside a single song. It is the kind of game that is good when you have five spare minutes and bad when you have five spare hours, because you will use all of them.

Who it's for

Suits anyone from about eight upward with decent reflexes. Adults looking for a palate cleanser between longer games, and phone users who want something to do with one thumb while standing up.
