The guide

Overview

Village Builder is a strategy game where your objective is to build a settlement from the ground-up. Choose one of the starting maps and start placing some houses first, and move on to more advanced buildings aimed to increase your culture, production, resources, and more. When you select a unit and hover over a tile to place it, you'll see some numbers indicating how many points you'll get from the placement. When you hover over a unit, you'll see the requirements for placing it such as mandatory neighboring tiles. Make sure to get the most points out of your settlements by paying attention to these details. Each successful building will accumulate toward leveling up. Doing so awards you more units to choose from, and a unique way to advance your civilization. So go ahead and explore every map and develop an empire that will stand the test of time.

What it's like to play

One button. Rising speed. No second chances. That is the arcade formula and it has not changed much in forty years because it does not need to. A session is a run of attempts where the first few are warm-ups and the later ones are tense. You stop noticing the music. You stop blinking. Then you clip an edge and it is over, and you tap Play again.

Controls

Use the left mouse button or your finger to select place upgrade move or remove a unit

How to play

1Check the start screen for the control hint, then do one throwaway run to feel how your character moves and stops.
2Commit to each input. Hesitating halfway through a jump or dodge is what causes most early crashes.
3Keep your thumb or finger resting lightly on the control so you are never reaching for it.
4Set a target before each run, for example clearing the next obstacle type, and stop for the day when you hit it.
