Does Classic Backammon work on a phone?

Yes. Most sports games here use swipe or tap controls that suit a touchscreen. A tablet gives more room to see the whole field or court.

Not very, and that is deliberate. Browser sports games keep the rules and the spirit but simplify the physics so matches are quick and fun.

Will it save my tournament progress?

Often, in your browser on the same device. Clearing site data or switching devices resets it. There is no account to sync.

The guide

Overview

Play the popular board game with your friends. Backgammon, also known as Tavla, Narde or Tavli is a two players board game that involves a combination of strategy and luck, due to rolling dice. The goal is to remove all of one’s own playing pieces ⚪ ⚫ from the board before the opponent can do the same. While the dice can determine the outcome of a single game, strategy is what separates the good and the better players over a series of games.

What it's like to play

A football match in a browser game lasts about three minutes and still manages to feel like a match. That is the trick of the genre. Sports games compress the real thing into a few essential inputs, keep the rules recognisable, and let the scoreboard do the rest. Sessions are built from short rounds, and the urge to play one more is strong when you have just lost.

How to play

1Pick a team or player if offered, then start a match and spend the first few seconds learning how your athlete moves.
2Use the arrow keys or on-screen pad to position, and the action button or tap to kick, shoot or swing.
3Time your action to the moment the ball or target is in reach; early or late inputs lose power or direction.
4Watch the clock and score, and change your approach when behind rather than repeating what is not working.
