Adventure games range from cheerful to mildly spooky. Nothing on this site is designed to be genuinely frightening, but check the thumbnail and description if you are playing with a young child.

What if I get completely stuck?

Revisit every screen you have seen and click or tap on anything you have not tried. If the game has a hint button, use it. Stepping away for a bit also helps.

Can I play on a phone?

Yes. Most adventures here provide touch controls, either on-screen buttons or tap-to-move. A larger screen helps for spotting small objects.

The guide

Overview

Mad shark, is a fascinating and beautiful game in which you have to collect fish, stars, life, great features and various upgrades and destroy submarines, mines, missiles and radioactive barrels.

What it's like to play

You start somewhere unfamiliar with a vague goal and not much else. An adventure game fills in the rest as you go: a path that opens when you find the right item, a character who tells you where to look, a platform that was there all along if you had thought to jump. Sessions are built from small discoveries, and the best ones stay with you.

How to play

1Spend the first minute exploring without a goal. Note exits, objects and anyone standing around.
2Interact with characters by walking up to them and pressing the action key or tapping. They often hand out clues.
3Collect items as you find them. Most adventures will not let you pick up something you do not eventually need.
4When a puzzle stumps you, read your inventory and the scene again. The combination is usually closer than it seems.

There is a particular pleasure in finally understanding what a place is asking of you, and Requin delivers that without any cost or setup. No download, no account, just a Play button. It suits an evening more than a bus ride, but you can leave and return.

Who it's for

Suits curious players from about ten years old upward, including adults who prefer thinking to twitch reflexes. People who enjoy puzzles with a bit of story attached will get the most from it.
