Templates are the engine of Canva. Thousands of them cover social posts, presentations, resumes, flyers, business cards, invitations, logos and memes, and each one is fully editable, so the app works as a general design tool for people who don't want to learn one. It also handles photo editing, video editing and visual spreadsheets. The photo editor includes a background eraser, filters, lighting and contrast adjustments and a collage maker. The video editor adds captions, slow motion and Beat Sync for cutting to music. Veo 3, an AI model, generates video with sound from a text prompt. Bulk Create takes a data set and turns out large numbers of design variations for ad campaigns. Presentations can embed data visualisations and interactive worksheets, and a resume builder has hundreds of layouts. Teams can collaborate on the same design in real time and gather feedback in place. Everyone gets 5GB of storage on the free plan.
Templates do most of the work in Canva's mobile app. Posts for social media, presentations, CVs, flyers, invitations, business cards, memes and logos all start from an editable layout, which is why people with no design training end up using it as their general design tool. Photo and video editing and visual spreadsheets are folded in too.
The AI side is growing. Veo 3 turns a typed prompt into video complete with sound, Bulk Create spins a data set into many design variations, and presentations can embed live data visualisations. Teams can edit one design at once and leave feedback in place. Free accounts get 5GB of storage.
A normal session starts with a search for a template type, say an Instagram story or a one-page resume, then a few minutes of swapping text, photos and colours. Photos get a background erased or a filter applied in the built-in editor before they drop into the design.
For video, you trim clips, add captions and use Beat Sync to cut to a track, or hand a prompt to Veo 3 and see what comes back. Marketing users lean on Bulk Create when they need twenty ad variants rather than one.
Most people arrive because they need something that looks designed by Friday and don't own desktop software, and Canva's name is shorthand for that. Lately the AI video generation draws a second wave of curiosity. The 4.9 rating across a million-plus reviews is unusually high for a Photography-category app and tells you the mobile version holds up.
Five screenshots are on the page, which for a design app usually means a template gallery, an editing canvas and an example output or two. Canva's own style is bright and tile-based, with a search bar up top and a toolbar of editing options along the bottom; the templates themselves set the visual tone of whatever you make.
A version string of 4.233.0 indicates a very long run of incremental releases on the fourth major line, which is what you'd expect from Canva Pty Ltd, a large company with a web product to keep in step. The 4.9 rating over 1M+ ratings backs that up. Only the App Store is linked here.

AI video experiments
Veo 3 generates short clips with sound from a written prompt.
It's rated 12+ and free to download, with 5GB of storage included at no cost. The listing describes the free plan but doesn't say which templates, AI features or team tools need a paid tier, so expect some gates. An account is implied by cloud storage and collaboration, though sign-in requirements aren't spelled out. Internet access is needed for templates and AI generation. There is no Play Store link on this page.
Our take
A safe recommendation for anyone who makes social graphics, decks or simple videos and wants one app for all of it. Professionals who need precise typography or layer control should look elsewhere, since the template approach trades fine control for speed, and the AI video tool is a novelty until you've tested it on your own prompts.
