Ruzzle is a word game for people with two minutes to spare. You and an opponent get the same grid of scrambled letters and swipe to form as many words as you can before the timer ends, with bonus tiles adding points. A match is three rounds, and each one can be played whenever suits you, so it works as a slow back-and-forth with friends or a quick game against a random player. Team Play is the newer addition: a co-op mode where your team competes against other teams and climbs league tables. The game supports 14 languages, so you can play in your own or practise another. Free to download. It comes from MAG Interactive, the studio behind Wordzee and Word Domination.
Ruzzle takes the word-search grid and turns it into a correspondence duel. Both players get an identical scramble of letters, swipe out as many words as they can in two minutes, and bonus tiles tilt the score. Three rounds make a match, and each round waits until you're ready, so a game can unfold over an afternoon or a week.
MAG Interactive, the Swedish studio behind Wordzee and Word Domination, added Team Play more recently: co-op squads competing against other teams in league tables.
You open the app, see which friends have taken their turn, and play your round. Two minutes of frantic swiping, a score, then you wait. Against random opponents it's quicker, and you can have several matches running at once. The timer is strict, so vocabulary and fast fingers both matter.
Team Play changes the rhythm: your squad's combined scores push you up a league, which means your rounds count for other people too. With 14 supported languages, some players use it to practise a second language.
It's one of the original asynchronous word duels, and people search for it to play with specific friends who already have it. The two-minute round length makes it easy to fit in, and the language support lets non-English speakers play natively. Team Play has given lapsed players a reason to return.
A square grid of letter tiles with coloured bonus markers takes up most of the screen during play, and the rest is menus for matches, friends and leagues. The style has always been bright and flat rather than fancy. The listing carries five screenshots, which should show the grid and the Team Play tables.
The sample is small for a game this old: around 1,000 ratings at 4.2 on the linked App Store page. That doesn't say much either way, but MAG Interactive is an established studio with several live word games, and the addition of Team Play shows the app hasn't been abandoned. No Play Store link appears on our page.
Friends across time zones
Asynchronous rounds let two people play a match without ever being online together.
Multilingual wordplay
Fourteen language dictionaries make it usable as light vocabulary practice.
League-minded groups
Team Play gives a group chat something to compete in each week.
Rated 4+ and free to download. The description doesn't list in-app purchases, though a free word game from a commercial studio usually has ads or paid extras, so treat that as unknown rather than absent. Matches against other people require a connection, and you'll presumably need some form of account to track friends and teams, which the listing doesn't detail.
Storage size and regional availability aren't given.
Our take
Worth installing if you have a friend to play against or want a word game that doesn't demand long sessions. On your own it's thinner, since the pleasure is largely in the rivalry. If you prefer solo puzzles with no timer, a crossword app will serve you better than this one.
