Radar is the strong suit of The Weather Channel app. Alongside daily and hourly forecasts it offers live Doppler maps, a 24-Hour Future Radar and storm tracking, with severe weather alerts for storms, heavy rain, snow and ice. It's for people who want more than a temperature on the lock screen, especially where winter storms and severe weather are a regular concern. Forecasts run up to 15 days ahead, and a 15-minute rain intensity forecast covers the next seven hours. You can personalise what the app tracks, including UV index, pollen count, humidity, allergy and flu outlooks, air quality and skin health. The widget puts local radar, alerts and a three-hour forecast on the home screen, and there's a feed of weather news with breaking alerts during extreme events. The free version carries ads. A Premium subscription removes them and extends the future radar to 72 hours, and adds weather for air travel, probabilistic snowfall and finer 15-minute detail.
